This was another e-mail i received from the team for their day on Monday!
Hello!
Another action packed day! The weather was warm and sunny. We started with VBS here at home base. 200 kids showed up. They are the most patient and polite kids! Despite our occasional barriers (I asked what you called the stuff in the plastic trash bags (trash), and they told me. Problem was, there were only cups in the trash bags, so I went around saying “Cups!” in Luo, and that’s all I got!)
Later we went to the Good Samaritan orphanage, where I was called “grandfather”. This was a VERY emotional experience for all of us and I’m sure others will describe below.
Later back here, the kids played soccer, baseball/football/foulball/anykind of ball.
We are blessed, healthy, moved every minute, and ready to do it all again tomorrow!
BTW, e-mail is sketchy. So this may be the best way for me to send updates rather than directly…
Fun Stuff—Driving down the road, the people yell out “Obama” to us. Next time I’m going to shout “War Eagle!”
I thought a little girl early in the morning had no arms, and I took a very sad photo that really captured the emotion of this little girl. Then she pulled her arms from under her thin shirt. She was just cold!
2 ½ hours of video, 400 photos-- which will be tough editing, but still having a great time!
Skip
Hey!!
So Skip described some of the day. It was an AMAZING 1st DAY!!!!! The kids are amazing. I want to bring one or two home but I cant. Tomorrow will be another great day, as we travel to a local church.
Mom I have had no ankle issue, just the regular stuff I deal with everyday. I thought I was going to lose weight, forget that I will come home WITH MY FREASHMEN 15. LOL.
I have tons of pics and videos to share with everyone. I think I might be able to get yall to come next year!
I love all of yall very much and I hope you are not stressing. I feel safer here then I do back home! For example where we went to day did not have money to but mattresses for their children’s bunk beds and they had about 20 beds and had some mattresses. BUT they had 50 children. But when we arrived they served us sodas and cookies, and back home that would be CHAMPANE AND CAVAIAR.
I don’t miss back home, just the people that I care about.
I love yall,
Brit
Good evening!
It’s almost 10:30PM and several of the team have already retired for the night. Others are playing Phase 10 and chatting. Me, I’m waiting for my hair to dry before I go to bed. We have been informed that there will be a scheduled power outage for all of the area tomorrow from 6AM to 6PM. But, that’s Kenya time so it could be 4AM to 9PM, you just never know! Anyway, hot showers tonight were highly recommended for all the team.
Today had some challenges, but we know to expect them. Tomorrow we go to the Anglican Church for VBS. They have never had any type children’s event such as this, so we know that it will be challenging as well. But they won’t know that things aren’t going as WE think the should be and all will be well. About 150 children are exspected to attend. We are preparing for 200. We are also going to take some of the CROC shoes that were sent by the friend of Beth Carpenter.
This afternoon we visited the Good Samaritan Orphanage. They were so glad to see some of returning. Their welcome was so humbling for us. Germie White had given me several pair of children’s shoes and some sheets for their beds. Amy Chambers had some of her students make baby blankets that were sent. You should have seen the faces of the staff and children when we gave them those!! They were so excited and gave thanks and sent blessings to the ladies who remembered them.
There’s an interesting thing about our journey over that I’m not sure has been shared or not that is too cool not to mention. We met a lady at the Huntsville airport who was traveling the same flights as us to meet other missionary team members destined for Kenya. When we arrived in DC we met 3 other teams from across the US, all traveling to Kenya. One the flight from London to Nairobi there were a total of 7 teams plus one couple traveling here to minister in a variety of ways. How incredible is that?
Love to all back home. We are all good, well, tired and grateful. Continue to pray for us as we continue to minister to these precious children.
God blessings and love
Jane
Hello from the Plains of Migori!,
We have had an amazing couple of days here. The highlight, as always, is the kids here at Brittney’s Home Of Grace. Today started with checking on the cows then on to the tractors and the vegetable fields. Today was the first Kenyan dog spay performed under general anesthesia and under sterile conditions! There is still so much work to be done.
I miss everyone at home but I am so much at ease with the fact that God has control of everything and his glory will shine through it all!
Thank you all for your prayers and especially thanks to Emily and Holly for your support of Mommy and Daddy. We love you all very much!
Roy and Dusty
Hello-
As everyone has said today was a great day here at the compound. I always enjoy going out to visit the Good Samaritan Orphanage. They have so little and we have so much we can share with them from here at KR Compound.
The highlight of my day was probably getting to give Joshua, my sponsor teen, a bicycle so he can begin to get into courier work. Joshua is 15 and in the exit program. I even got to hand him over the keys to his bike, yes, it is a courier bike so the back breaks lock with a key, nice huh?!
I am excited to go out tomorrow to the kids who have never experienced VBS. I think pushing out into new areas is what is all about. Only God knows what tomorrow may bring for KR. All we can do is take the baby steps and see where He takes us. Please keep praying for the new endeavors, the team, and the Kenyan people.
Love
Emily
Hey Ya’ll
Had a busy day. VBS was a little hectic for the first, but as a whole it was great. The kids loved it. We are going out to a church tomorrow and we expect 150 – 200 kids.
Some of them probably have never seen a white person. The children today really made us feel blessed. I helped Roy and Dusty spay the orphanage dog. It was very interesting. They have too many dogs. Me and Dusty played softball this afternoon with the kids of the orphanage. I think it was softball but every time they hit the ball there was ten boys on top of each other and when the one that got the ball came to the top he would run to home plate and holler “say time!” because Dusty told them to say “time!”.
All is well here and I hope all is well there.
God is good.
