2009 VBS TEAM - Sunday Aug 9th

Hey Everyone!

Today was our first full day at the KR compound. We all went to church with Carma at the Maranatha Gospel Church in town. It was a nice “welcome home” to Migori. We were able spend some time with the BHOG(Brittney Home of Grace) kids today. Those of us who have been here before reconnected with the kids, while the “newbies” began to build friendships that will tug at their hearts for years to come.

Once again, things improve every year! I almost feel spoiled when I come here. Having been here since the beginning, it amazes me every year to see the changes. Some of you who have not been since 04 would not believe it!

VBS starts tomorrow. Day 1 of 4 for the Traveling VBS TEAM. Should be interesting, exciting and CRAZY.

Love you and miss you all-
Emily Durden

Ps- Kiss my baby girl for me! Big ones not jussa little one.

Jambo (Hello) –
We can only echo all that Emily has said. It feels like we are home when we are here and are still overwhelmed by the smiles and the welcome from our Kenyan Family. I (Dusty) was treated to a new “hairdo” by the girls today – I am sure you will all enjoy the pictures when you see them. We also met our new sponsor child today. She is very shy but that won’t last for long!!!
So we start VBS tomorrow and that should be crazy but loads of FUN!!!! To all of our friends and family, THANK YOU for all you have done to help us get here – whether it is money, prayer or taking care of our girls there!! Emily and Holly – Mama and Daddy LOVE YOU and hope you have a GREAT FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!
Keep us all in your prayers during the next days, we don’t know what God has in store, but we know it will be a glorious experience!

LOVE YA!!

Hello to everyone!

After three long days of travel, we arrived safely yesterday evening to a wonderful welcome by the children and staff. Today we were off to church and then back for an afternoon of preparing for the first day of VBS tomorrow. This year the format is different so we will do the first VBS here at Marindi. Carma says to expect about 150 to attend. We have learned that the session at Living Hope Church on Thursday will probably have at least 800 in attendance. I am so excited that we are going out into the communities this year. What an opportunity for the team to minister to a wider area of children.

Everyone on the team is doing great and “bonding” as a true missionary family. They are eager to get started with VBS classes tomorrow.

I going to let someone else use the computer. Everyone back home, I love you and am so grateful for your prayers and support. We will send an update after the first day is under our belt tomorrow.

Good night and sweet dreams from Migori Kenya!

Hello everyone! Took a long time to get here! Almost 3 days of travel. The trip is worth it. The children greeted us with a wonderful little program and all seemed glad we had come. Right away I had one little girl tell me she wanted to be my friend forever!

We worked tonight on getting ready for our first day of VBS in the morning. Guess we’re as ready as we can be.

Please keep the team in you prayers. I love and miss you all!

Allan (Mom)

Hello All.

Got here, not sure how long it took but it is quite a trip!
Trip was long but you always see something different on the bumpy highway. I think God some plan for a little test. We all past the test. We were all good to go on the trip from Nairobi and we were awake and hearts beating a little fast when we reached the orphanage – anxious to see the children. They gave us a wonderful welcoming.

We went to church this morning, which was a church where we are going to have VBS. We worked this afternoon on our VBS this afternoon and we think we are ready for tomorrow.

I love you all.
Keeping the Faith,
Margaret

Hello!
Everyone has described how we got here and what we’re doing. I am looking forward to all that too. I’ll tell you about a conversation Frances, one of our drivers, and I had tonight.

I told him there are people in America who think they are poor. I saw people last year in Ecuador who thought they were poor. But some of the people I’ve seen in Kenya are REALLY poor. Their living conditions are terrible. Here is the awesome part. What they lack in things, they are so rich in the Spirit. And as Frances told me, dispite the conditions, people put up with what they have, because Kenyan’s are free. People leave the bordering countries to come HERE.

It is such a joy to share with those who are eager to hear God’s word. They smile, sing and laugh so much.

Fun stuff-- all the kids told us today they were relatives of our President. They love to feel our hairy arms and legs (the guys. LOL)
